In yet another empty gesture, liberal women in Congress have announced that they are are going to bravely wear all black to President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union speech. They claim they are protesting against sexual harassment with their choice of frocks.

California Democrat Jackie Speier took to Twitter this week to urge her congressional colleagues to wear black to highlight sexual harassment.

“My colleagues and I in the @HouseDemWomen are calling on our fellow MoCs – women & men, Democrats & Republicans – to wear black to this year’s #SOTU in solidarity w/survivors of sexual harassment/violence in Hollywood, politics, the military, academia,” she wrote.

“This is a culture change that is sweeping the country, and Congress is embracing it,” Speier told the Huffington Post.

“The congresswoman said she and other members of the Democratic Women’s Working Group are inviting men and women across the political spectrum to join them in making a statement at the Jan. 30 State of the Union address,” HuffPo wrote.

Indeed, as Daily Wire notes, Speier is quite the hypocrite when it comes to those of her fellows who are charged with sexual harassment.

Unfortunately for Speier and others, the “Time’s Up” black dress code may be as much of a farce in Congress as it was in Hollywood, where women who palled around with Harvey Weinstein for decades believed donning a designer black frock would suddenly wash away their culpability in covering up his allegedly abusive behavior.

Both Speier herself — and Democratic Minority Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi — cast doubt on Conyers’s accusers in the face of public outcry, with Pelosi going so far as to call Conyers an “American icon” and defending him on Sunday morning talk shows. Other Democratic Congresswomen, like New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, refused to believe Sen. Al Franken’s accusers, applying their “zero tolerance” standard against sexual harassment only when Franken was accused of misbehavior by more than a dozen women.

Speaking of Hollywood, of course, Rep. Speier is trying to emulate the Hollywoodiots who recently pulled the same meaningless stunt at the Golden Globes awards.

Actress Debra Messing claimed their all-black stunt was a “message” to the world.

“This is not about Hollywood,” actress Debra Messing said during a red carpet interview before the award show Sunday. “This is about every woman in every industry, globally.”

Messing is prone to grandiose proclamations like that. But I’d guess the women in the Middle East who face real oppression just for going to school would not feel all warm and fuzzy that Debra Messing is wearing a $3,000 black dress in “solidarity” with them!

Whatever Messing is for, it might be a good idea to head in the other direction!

In any case, let’s face it. These pampered liberals aren’t really doing a thing to “help” any oppressed minority. All these silly symbolic showings of support amount to nothing at all. It’s all sound and fury, Signifying nothing.
