Some liberals hate the Trumps so much so that it truly influences their professional judgment. First Lady Melania Trump asked to borrow a Van Gogh painting from the Guggenheim for the White House, a not uncommon request to make. But what the museum curator responded with was obviously meant to be an insult to her and the President of the most pointed kind.
The curator, Nancy Spector has been openly critical of President Donald Trump on social media.
So she refused Melania Trump’s request for the Van Gogh.
But she did offer her something else instead: a working used 18 karat gold toilet called ‘America.’
From Daily Caller:
The gold commode was available “should the President and First Lady have any interest in installing it in the White House,” curator Nancy Spector wrote in an email response to the White House, obtained by The Post.
According to the email, Trump had requested Van Gogh’s “Landscape with Snow,” but that work was “prohibited from travel except for the rarest of occasions,” Spector wrote. “We are sorry not to be able to accommodate your original request,” Spector said, “but remain hopeful that this special offer may be of interest.”
She included an illustration of the toilet, designed by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. Cattelan “would like to offer it to the White House for a long-term loan,” Spector, a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, said in the email.
Tens of thousands of people have made ‘use’ of the ‘art’ at the Guggenheim in a single-stall ‘gender-neutral’ bathroom.
The museum offered to bring it to the White House and teach them how to use it. Spector said the gift resonated in the Trump era since Trump has become “synonymous with golden toilets.” She said the toilet was “extremely valuable and somewhat fragile,” but that the museum would provide instructions as to how to care for it.
Cattelan told The Post that the offer was “a very delicate subject.” When a reporter asked why he offered the toilet to the Trumps, Cattelan said: “What’s the point of our life? Everything seems absurd until we die and then it makes sense.”
According to the descriptions of why Cattelan did this ‘art,’ he meant to mock America’s “greedier instincts.”
So in addition to being insulting to the First Family, Spector seems also to have been mocking America both with displaying it at the museum and proffering it as a gift.
The White House has not yet commented on this juvenile act.
But others did not hold back on Twitter.
Multiple media posted on it and it reached international outlets.
Al Jazeera naturally thought it was just funny as heck to mock America.
NY Times reporters thought it was just so funny.
