On Friday night, Sean Hannity’s Twitter account with over 3 million followers mysteriously disappeared, following a mysterious tweet, provoking a lot of concern about what might be happening.

The last tweet Hannity sent out said, “Form Submission 1649 l #Hannity.”

But the account did come back after a few hours.

While Hannity has not commented on Twitter about it, the Daily Beast asked Twitter what had happened.

From Washington Examiner:

The Daily Beast, however, did obtain a statement from a Twitter spokesperson, saying Hannity’s account was “briefly compromised.”

“While we normally do not discuss individual accounts, for privacy and security reasons, we have permission from the account owner to confirm that account was briefly compromised. We are working with the owner to restore access,” the Twitter spokesperson said.

Several politicos and journalists commented on the disappearance and what “Form Submission 1649” could mean, with some of them joking about some sort of conspiracy to silence the right-wing firebrand who is also a staunch supporter of President Trump.

Of course many speculated as to why the account was compromised. Julian Assange’s account was deactivated last month.

A similar incident happened in December to WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. His follower count had significantly dropped upon account’s return, but then dramatically rose back up. A spokeswoman for the company pointed out at the time that Twitter’s guidance on reactivating an account says “account data (such as Tweets, followers, favorites, etc.) may take a few minutes to fully restore.”

Assange was one of the Twitter users who took note of Hannity’s Twitter debacle.

And then there was the infamous incident where a Twitter employee allegedly deactivated the President’s Twitter account for several minutes.

Other conservatives and Fox News employees have had their accounts recently hacked, allegedly by Turkish activists who are pro-President Erdogan.

Not sure why Erdogan’s people would be so overly concerned about Fox News. That seems an odd explanation.

But it would be interesting to see what Hannity has to say about the incident.

Because it seems more than a heavy coincidence that it’s conservative accounts getting hit.
