With Democrats so desperate to stop the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh, they have resorted to all kinds of despicable actions. From the smears and lies during the hearings from Senators Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Cory Booker (D-NJ), to the last ditch effort of Sen. Dianne Feinstein with a ‘secret letter’ from a ‘secret person’ about a ‘possible’ question about Kavanaugh. But that isn’t all. According to moderate possible swing vote Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), she’s been subjected to both bribery attempts and to threats.

Opponents to Kavanaugh, Mainers for Accountable Leadership and Maine People’s Alliance, have started a crowdfunding campaign telling Collins that they will fund her opponent if she doesn’t vote against Kavanaugh.

From Conservative Tribune:

It was also reported that donors’ credit cards will only be charged their pledged donations against Collins if she casts a yes vote. The money would not be used against her if she opposes Kavanaugh.

In effect, Collins told Newsmax, the groups are trying to buy her vote.

“I consider this quid pro quo fundraising to be the equivalent of an attempt to bribe me to vote against Judge Kavanaugh,” Collins said in a statement to Newsmax.

“If I vote against him, the money is refunded to the donors. If I vote for him, the money is given to my opponent for the 2020 race.”

And the crowdfunding website makes it very clear, it depends completely on how Collins votes.

The website at where potential donors can pledge their donations featured the unambiguous headline: “Either Sen. Collins VOTES NO on Kavanaugh OR we fund her future opponent.”

And this is not an insignificant amount – they’ve already raised more than $1 million.

But Collins isn’t about to be bribed. “This effort will not influence my vote at all,” she said.

And it may actually backfire as the attempt seems to have emphasized the nastiness of the opponents to her. “I think it demonstrates the new lows to which the judge’s opponents have stooped,” Collins observed.

And they didn’t stop with bribes.

Collins’ office has been inundated with threatening calls and even received an obscene “three-foot-long cardboard cutout of male genitalia” with profanity.

From Daily Caller:

Utah Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch’s office weighed in on the cutout via Twitter Thursday evening.

“The left’s campaign to pressure Senator Collins has gone from threats of sexual violence against young staffers to actual sexual harassment,” the tweet said. “This is abhorrent behavior and (again) deserves to be roundly condemned from the right and left.”

According to the WaPo, Collins will be meeting with Judge Kavanaugh on Friday to outline any concerns she might have before making her decision.

The other potential swing voter, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), has also been facing pressure.
